If you don’t have means to a therapist or mental health professional

Check out therapistaid.com. There’s worksheets there that you can download for free.

Of course it would be a lot more beneficial if you have a therapist to help you through it but not everyone has access to one.

It’s a free site where you can have free downloads of worksheets on many things.

If there’s something there that you think would be helpful, print it out and complete the worksheet on your own.

It’s hard to be accountable for yourself but at least there’s a way for you to have some insight and work on yourself.

to do this weekend:

  • get a flu shot
  • finish signup for Fandom Loves Puerto Rico
  • hash out some final details for a new Etsy commission
  • make an Amazon order for a couple different commissions
  • spend more time elevating my sprained ankle and hope the swelling in my foot goes down
  • leave voicemails for legislators about Puerto Rico, the asshole-in-chief sabotaging the ACA, the asshole-in-chief decertifying the Iran deal for some fucking reason, maybe other things
  • also probably try to contact the state’s attorney general (I am…not totally sure we’re set up that way?) about joining the lawsuit
  • post some relevant articles on Facebook that I’m sure will be ignored but I should at least try
  • write
  • probably something else I’m forgetting

So I was notified via email that in order to vote in the 2018 primaries, I had to register my party affiliation, in my home state….by OCY 13TH

Holy shit guys. Please find out ur state’s voting rules and OH MY GOD PLEASE DO IT BEFORE TIME RUNS OUT. WE HAVE TO BEAT THE CONSERVATIVES IF WE WANT TO HAVE ANY MEANS OF OPPOSING TRUMP.

Voting abroad should still be similar to ur state’s rules, please….google is ur friend.

Holy shit please take ten min to google what to do and register.

To vote in the 2017 Virginia elections, you have to register and have your info up-to-date by October 16, 2017.

You want to make a difference? You vote in off years. Non-presidential elections. And you vote on all of the elections. It will take you a few minutes on your state board of elections website to figure out the issues, candidates, and where to get the info.

VOTE. Please.

And this year in Virginia, it’s a big election. Our governor cannot run again for reelection, and we’re up against a scary ‘I was Trump before Trump was Trump’ republican and a more insidious, Pence-style republican. You want people to stand up to Trump and create laws that support the local population? This is it. This is when it matters.

Vote.

Here’s how to check which district you’re in and who your rep is.

Here’s how to find out if you’re registered.

Here are the deadlines for when to register.

Here’s how to register, if it turns out you’re not.

Here’s how to find local polling places.

Tag it with “voting reference” and you’ll always be able to find it again.

Fandom Loves Puerto Rico

hansbekhart:

Puerto Rico is in super bad shape. Hurricane Maria has destroyed entire towns, wiped out their electrical grid, trashed hospitals and roads. Right now, ten days after Maria made landfall, more than 40% of the island currently lacks access to drinking water and electricity – literally millions of people. It’s estimated that it will take up to six months to repair the electrical grid and get power back to the island. They will need sustained, committed aid.

How will this fundraiser work?
Creators can sign up over here to auction off fics, art, meta, beta services, consulting, tutorials, anything! Then, we spend the next few weeks whipping social media into a frenzy about how awesome fandom charity auctions are, and how many frigging cool creators have signed up for this one! Then, the auction page will go live on Dreamwidth! Each offering will get its own comment post, and a frenzy of bidding will happen in the comment threads! The winners will have a set amount of time to send their creator proof of their donation. Once they’ve donated, the creator gets to work making cool shit! Easy peasy, lemon squeezy – the tried and true formula for fandom fundraising.

Sign ups will be open until October 15th
The auction will go live on October 21st, and close a day or so later.
Proof of donations must be sent by November 4th to claim your prize!

Click through here to find out what kind of works can be auctioned, what charity we’ll be donating to, and other information.

If you also want to help donate for immediate relief now, thank you so so much, and here are some reputable organizations that are sending direct aid right now.

All static pages (sign up sheet, FAQ, the auction page, and other info) will be maintained on Dreamwidth to keep links and resources consistent, but please share this post on tumblr or any other platform!  You do not need a Dreamwidth account to comment at the community, but I’m also happy to answer questions or give other information here on tumblr. My ask box is open, anon is okay.

Fandom has come together and done amazing things – from Sweet Charity to Fandomaid to @fandomtrumpshate. Let’s show some love to Puerto Rico and help them get back on their feet.

haha so I decided to take off today and tomorrow to give myself a long weekend before things get really busy at work, which means I had grand but vague plans to do All The Things and then got up late and got, uh, very little done today. so to help me keep track of things, yet another list:

things I need to do this weekend:

  • clean the litter box and take out the garbage
  • wrap gifts for my nephew’s first birthday party on Saturday
  • finish what I’m doing for the Fallen London fanart contest, which also needs to be up Saturday
  • …ideally while watching or listening to some show or podcast I’ve been meaning to catch up on for ages
  • use a coupon for $2 off at the Barnes & Noble cafe, because it expires Monday
  • use a couple other coupons for a free donut and a discounted espresso drink because they also expire soon
  • write
  • work on an Etsy commission
  • call my legislators about…fuck I don’t even know, again, gun safety for sure but probably other things?? will have to check
  • repost Pride Cap necklaces and other Etsy stuff to see if I can get more signal boosts because I’d like to donate more to Puerto Rico recovery efforts
  • (very carefully) crack open my dying iPod Classic and see if reconnecting its hard-drive cord helps with the problems I’ve been having

things that need to happen in general at some point and have for a while but probably won’t anytime real soon because either they’re not urgent or they take too long:

  • clean my disaster of a room
  • list stuff on eBay and/or relevant trading sites
  • put some podcasts on my phone where I might actually listen to them
  • set up an actual backup system on my computer

things I’d like to do this weekend that may or may not happen:

  • put the Captain America decal on my car
  • play something, probably Fallout
  • work on Titan Hero Gamora custom
  • finish Titan Hero Loki custom and maybe something else that’s been in the works a while, idk
  • take and post some more “adventures of tiny Loki & Thor” pictures

Three quick ways to help the Las Vegas shooting victims

beachdeath:

If waking up Monday to news of the worst mass shooting in U.S. history left you feeling angry or devastated, there’s a solution: take action.

1. Donate Blood

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement saying that residents should donate blood to the more than 400 people wounded when 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire from his hotel room late Sunday.

Specifically, United Blood Services is set to start taking donations at 7 a.m. local time at 6930 West Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas or 601 Whitney Ranch Drive in Henderson. The University Medical Center of Southern Nevada is also preparing to launch a blood drive Monday at the Delta Point Building, though the exact time of that event has not yet been announced.

There are also prescheduled American Red Cross blood drives taking place at the SpringHill Suites Las Vegas Convention Center at 2989 Paradise Road and Ernest May Elementary School at 6350 West Washburn Road.

2. Donate Money

Not in the area? Consider giving money to the Southern Nevada chapter of the American Red Cross, which accepts donations on its website, by phone at 702-369-3674 or via mail at 1771 East Flamingo Road, #206B, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89119.

You can also support the National Compassion Fund, which directly distributes donations from the public to victims of a mass crime. The fund has previously partnered up with the relatives of victims of disasters like 9/11 and the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and vows to be transparent in how it handles the money it collects.

3. Call Your Representatives

After you’ve written a check, make your voice heard politically, as well. Call your representative and talk to him or her about gun laws both in your state and nationwide. The House of Representatives’ switchboard number is (202) 224-3121.

In Nevada, for example, gun owners don’t have to have licenses and can open carry their firearms without a permit. Nationally, the House of Representatives is weighing legislation that would ease up on rules concerning gun silencers, which law enforcement officers argue could make it harder to identify the suspect during mass shootings.

If you want to change that, find the phone number for your representatives and senators here and let them know what you think. Your actions may ultimately do more to help victims of future attacks than lawmakers’ tweeted thoughts and prayers.

If you believe gun laws are too lax, get in touch with groups like Everytown for Gun Safety and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

The National Rifle Association advocates for fewer gun restrictions.
